What You Need To Know About French Bulldogs

A Little History:

French Bulldogs originate from Great Britain and this breed gained great popularity during the Industrial Revolution.

This adorable breed can be traced back to ancient Greece. This kind of dog belonged to the Molossian tribe, today known as the Mastiff. The Bullenbeisser, which comes from this breed, later became the "bulldog". At the beginning of the 19th century, this breed was mainly used as bait for bulls. When bull baiting was banned, Bulldogs began to be domesticated. They were then gradually mixed with other breeds, such as Terriers and Pugs, in order to develop a smaller breed.

It was during this period that these dogs arrived in France as they accompanied their masters, who were textile workers who had to emigrate to this country in order to meet the strong demand for labor caused by the Industrial Revolution. From that moment, the breeding of Bulldogs was perpetuated in France by enthusiasm for the breed.

Voila! The "Bouledogue Français" was born!

Why Adopt a French Bulldog:

French bulldogs have a deeply affectionate nature. They are vivacious, intelligent, sociable, playful, and sometimes possessive dogs, but always eager to please.

They are fun, entertaining and loving. Each one of these dogs is a unique being with an exceptional personality of their own. French Bulldogs have a friendly demeanor that is suitable for a single person as well as families with children.

Since these dogs tend to adapt quickly to different environments, they usually respond very well to a variety of situations and are calm and peaceful around other animals and new visitors. They may be even looking for a free lap to snuggle on. This breed is quiet and well-behaved, which means they don't tend to bark unnecessarily.

Another good thing about this breed is that it gets along well with cats! The important thing here is to introduce the two species to each other slowly and gradually. Success should thus be assured.

In addition, these dogs make excellent watchdogs and can become easily protective and territorial towards their families. They are unbelievably observant, alert and loyal to their owners. These qualities make them capable of warning and protecting their owner in threatening situations.

Activity Level:

This dog breed is generally active, alert and playful while not overly energetic. Since their exercise needs are low, French Bulldogs make excellent companions for less active people. If you are looking for a breed of dog that does not require a lot of exercise to stay fit and healthy, the French Bulldog is an ideal choice.

They prefer to snuggle with their owner or relax on the couch. Therefore, a short walk twice a day is sufficient to keep them healthy. To ensure a French Bulldog’s optimal level of exercise, you can play fetch with them a few times a week, as Frenchies love to chase things and have fun with their toys.

However, you should never underestimate this breed as they are still capable of taking long walks and they enjoy swimming in life jackets.

Grooming:

Grooming is quick and easy. Not only do they shed seasonally, but they do not require much more than the occasional grooming. A quick brush helps remove loose hair and evenly distributes the coat’s natural oils, which contributes to healthy skin and natural hair luster.

Frenchies can be bathed once a month or as needed.

Ear cleaning is fairly easy and can be done right after giving your French Bulldog a bath.

Also, you can tell that your dog's nails need to be trimmed if they are clicking on the floor when your dog walks. Lastly, some French bulldogs require their tear stains under the eyes to be cleaned as well as their folds.
